Also in the panel is Robin Wight (President Engen) and Kathleen Saxton (The Lighthouse company). Moderated by Sally Eyden (Now Magazine).
What is your superpower making you a superbrand?
Katie Price: Common sense
Robin Wright (Engen): Tenacity and insensitivity
Kathleen Saxton (Lighthouse): My ability to connect with people
Katie Price, should we be ourselves?
I won big brother because I am myself and share myself
Social Presence
Kathleen Saxton (Lighthouse): We look at candidates social feeds. Look at your social voice "Don't let your Friday night become your Monday morning"
Discussion around looks and branding…
Katie Price manages 2 brands with Jordan and Katie Price. Robin Wright (Engen) explains how we decide about a brand and person very very fast. A brand helps you make a decision quickly. Kathleen Saxton (Lighthouse) references Malcolm Gladwell and studies showing taller people earn more. 65% of leaders are over 6 foot but only over 9% of population actually are. Every inch above average in height earns you £300 more in salary. Overweight people are judged to be lazy and slower. More people compliment Katie Price with smaller boobs.
How do you decide what to do and tone down? Why did you decide to do it now?
Katie Price: "When the price is right…." ;-) For Big Brother, Katie got paid the same as everyone else but only did half the show. The media have made out that she is a feisty character. Kathleen Saxton (Lighthouse): it's important to show vulnerability and fragility. This is contrary to the old advice to "never cry at work". Why not show it from time to time?
Katie Price: "I get warned what to talk about and not but always still end up saying it. My management don't monitor my twitter @missKatiePrice". She see's potential for extending her brand and could even try kitchenware or homeware. "I don't expect people to look at me and model themselves on me. I'm like Marmite, you either love me or hate me."
How do you stay ahead?
Katie Price: There are competitors in any business even mine who steal your format. While managers try make others the next Katie Price but it's not possible as I am myself. I like to compete with myself as I don't think there is anyone else who does the same as me (with the same breadth). Robin Wright (Engen): Brand Katie Price shows the power of instinct and this is a great lesson – follow your instinct. Katie Price: I am open for any business idea but generally won't promote something I don't believe in. I started Katie Price Equestrian range for horses offering bright Barbie colours.
What is your one secret?
Katie Price: I have 3 sowing machines, love making things. My dream job is to be a detective and understanding the criminal brain.
Robin Wright (Engen): I already talked about being bipolar. I created my own second name – Siegfried.
Kathleen Saxton (Lighthouse): Training as a psychotherapist. I have always wanted to do a streak!
To which Katie responded, "If you do that, I will get my boobs out!"
